Three Genres

Literature comprises three main genres and Stephen Minot in his book Three Genres clearly delineates and simplifies this concept. The course of Creative Writing is intended to offer students the experience of learning methods of effective expression of facts and feelings in whichever genre. Poetry, prose and drama writing are the main features of the course and through their usage will allow for students to develop critical skills through the analysis and discussion of their work.
Through intensive reading, students will be exposed to a variety of literary texts, containing models and examples from which they can elaborate their own style and works. Students should be able to make their way from simple language to more sophisticated writing in terms of the linguistic and literary resources at their disposal. At the end of the course, they should be in a position to undertake the way to become professional writers in the areas, should they decide or need to do so.
